Our curriculum is designed to provide well-rounded General Psychiatry training, while allowing our residents as much flexibility as possible to tailor their training to their unique professional interests.

Highlights of PGY-2 Year

  • Elective time available to help each resident customize their program early – especially those interested in fast-tracking into a Child and Adolescent Fellowship
  • Bridge Clinic provides early introduction into Outpatient Psychiatry prior to starting PGY-3 year, while enhancing patient’s continuity of care

PGY-3 

Outpatient Psychiatry 
(Including Community Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry)

Highlights of PGY-3 Year

  • Longitudinal clinics provide experience for outpatient continuity of care; including Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, community mental health clinic, child clinic, and resident psychotherapy clinic
  • Elective outpatient clinics, up to one full day/week, tailor outpatient experience to each resident’s interests
  • Resident therapy clinic, with a minimum of three therapy patients, encompasses both Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy cases
  • 1:1 Supervision with both Therapy and Medication supervisors

Highlights of the PGY-4 Year

  • Flexible schedule to tailor to residents’ individual professional interest
  • Leadership experience may include work in an integrated care site, as a senior in our Bridge Clinic, or as acting attending
  • Other electives may be clinical, or may include non-clinical activities such as research and scholarly time, forensic psychiatry, or advocacy projects                                                                     Top

We offer a wide variety of electives to fit our residents’ interests…or residents may design their own.  All the electives listed below are located in Cleveland within easy driving distance, except Oberlin College Mental Health Clinic (which is 39 miles away from University Hospitals – Cleveland Medical Center) and our New Zealand Experience (which is approximately 8,700 miles away).
